People voting with their wallets/social media follows/whatever is more than enough. There's lines on both sides that don't need to be crossed. Same as people trying to start some kind of call to action to have WotC change her card art. The fact that you're gilded and upvoted for your trash-heap, low-bar opinion that everyone should just support people regardless of how shitty they are as people because OO PRETTY ART is fucked.Įdit : To be clear, anyone acting like everyone should go home and burn their cards with her art on them or some shit is fucked in the head too. Shitty people spreading hateful messages are people I don't want to give my money to. I'm saying your whole "separate the person from their work" thing isn't a very valid point, at *all*. Should everyone just get their plane tickets, buckle up, and crush some delicious Hitler donuts, because his political views are separate from his delicious pastries? Not to be dramatic, because this is trope-y as fuck, but what if Hitler owned a **dope ass** donut shop. If you're an artist, and you have a public social media that you use and you actively like things like "white power" posts (it was a post comparing "white power" now to the "black power" movement of the 70s/80s), then people are more than welcome to boycott your shit because they don't want to financially support someone spreading hateful rhetoric. If I tweet out "kill all black people" on my twitter, that's not a fucking political view, champ. How about we stop using the word "political views" when what you mean to say his "hateful rhetoric". I also want to clarify I in no way supported Nielsen in my post, but used this example to soapbox about my unbiased viewpoint on the matter. Respect was not a good choice of words in hindsight, rather I think dismissing someone immediately based on your perceived interpretation of their beliefs are. Not sure how we got here and this isn’t strictly an MTG problem but Terese Nielsen makes beautiful art, and I’d love to see it return to my favorite game.ĮDIT: I want to add a disclaimer since this post has been interpreted in a very reductive manner, partly due to my mistake. I’m not going to ask if the artist of my favorite card “allows” me to play it and I’m not going to tell my LGS I won’t face Thomas in round 2 because of his political beliefs.

I’m not going to ask if my UPS driver is a conservative. I’m not going to ask if my fast food order was made by a liberal. These groups don’t even debate, they argue amongst themselves about the other. We (the internet) have gone so far to remove ourselves from each other that radical groups spawn from echo chambers. You do not have to agree with those people but we need to respect them. We have to stop ignoring people solely because they think differently.
